Background & training

Trained where the standards are set

Dr Habibi completed his general surgery residency at Antalya Training and Research Hospital between 2009 and 2015 — one of Turkey's highest-volume surgical training centres — and has since practised general and bariatric surgery in Istanbul, Alanya and Antalya.

At Cleveland Clinic Florida, he trained in the minimally invasive surgery department under Dr Raul Rosenthal, one of the world's foremost authorities on sleeve gastrectomy. At Ponderas Academic Hospital in Bucharest, he completed a three-month clinical fellowship under Dr Catalin Copaescu, supported by a competitive training scholarship from the European Association for Endoscopic Surgery (EAES) — and later co-authored research with the Ponderas team on managing complications after sleeve gastrectomy.
